Preserving community and the unique structures that house them

Belmont Square was an early experimentation in incorporating and realizing some of the ideas from the Garden City movement that were becoming popular among architects during the 1920s.

Our mission is to bring awareness to the intimate life and historical significance of a garden community at the footsteps of downtown Los Angeles.

A neighborhood anchored at the footsteps of DTLA and tethered by its emerging resources.

The Westlake community is 1st Street, Glendale Avenue, 3rd Street, 6th Street, Beverly and Wilshire Boulevards all weaving through the neighborhood infrastructure, providing the transit and resources for a walkable community.

“The garden space and footpath create a unique environment that successfully reflect David Witmer’s vision for living spaces that incorporate natural landscaping and facilitate communal interaction.”

“Here you have the convenience of a Downtown hotel, yet the comfort of a high, quiet residential neighborhood”

The Los Angeles Times January 20, 1924

Belmont Square provides a look into how a development was able to increase density that duplexes, fourplexes, and bungalow courts could not, while providing outdoor spaces and a quality of life on par with them.
